[How to stream simultaneous interpretation via Zoom and common problems] LIFE.14, which has a wealth of experience in streaming simultaneous interpretation, explains

Zoom has a feature called "simultaneous interpretation" that allows you to broadcast in multiple languages at the same time. The simultaneous interpretation feature is an attractive feature that allows you to deliver broadcasts in real time to viewers who do not understand the original language.

This is an essential feature for international online events, online broadcasts aimed at overseas audiences, and international corporate conferences.

However, simultaneous interpretation distribution requires complex distribution/viewing settings for both viewers and distributors, so it is true that problems are likely to occur. In this article, our company, which has been in charge of simultaneous interpretation distribution for many countries' embassies, chambers of commerce, foreign-affiliated companies, etc., will explain how to distribute simultaneous interpretation and common problems that can occur.

[Simultaneous interpretation distribution settings]

Settings on the distribution side

Register the interpreter and the language to be interpreted.

Interpreters can be registered in advance or can be registered from among participants after the start of the broadcast. For online broadcasts, it is common to register interpreters in advance to prevent any issues.

1. Log in to Zoom and click Settings → In the Meeting (Advanced).

2. Turn on language selection

The languages in the image below will be displayed by default, but if you want to add a new language, you can click the + button (the + next to "9 languages" in the image below) to add it.

3. Set up an interpreter for the meeting you created. Check Enable language interpretation and set the interpreter's email address and language.

The following conditions must be met in order to select a language. If you are unable to select a language, please review your settings.

Viewer Settings

1. Select the language you want to listen to from the Interpretation button at the bottom of the screen.

You can also mute the original audio.

[Common problems and solutions]

Case 1: No audio or double language

Cause

・If the viewer has not selected a language

・If the speaker makes a mistake with the language selection

Resolution

Speakers choose the language they speak, and audience members choose the language they want to listen to.

The procedure for selecting the language is as follows:

1.Select "Interpretation" as shown in the photo below.

2. Select and click your language.

There are many cases where the language selection is incorrect during simultaneous interpretation broadcasts. It's a simple thing, but if the simultaneous interpretation isn't working properly, check that you're selecting the correct language.

Case 2: I have selected the language but I can't hear the audio or I can only hear the original audio.

Cause

・The interpreter's choice of language

・When the connection conditions at the venue or the viewer's connection are poor

Resolution

Interpreters should choose the language they speak.

In addition, there may be cases where the audio does not reach the viewers due to the line conditions at the venue. Checking the line conditions at the venue and conducting rehearsals and tests is the key to successful simultaneous interpretation distribution.

Simultaneous interpretation streaming requires complex setup and problems occur more frequently than with regular streaming.

LIFE.14 will respond quickly to various problems.
